Homemade ginger bug is a natural starter culture used to make fizzy ginger ale, root beer, and other probiotic-rich drinks. Made with grated ginger, sugar, and water, this fermenting agent creates effervescence and adds beneficial bacteria, resulting in delicious and healthful homemade beverages.
- 1 1/4 cup filtered warm water
- 2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh organic ginger
- 2 teaspoons organic white or unrefined sugar
- extra ginger and sugar to feed the bug

Instructions
- In a sterilized 500 ml mason jar with lid add all the ingredients.
- Shake well until all the sugar is dissolved.
- Place in a warm spot 72- 80 degrees F) for 24 hours.
- the next day feed it by adding another two teaspoons each of the chopped ginger and sugar.
- Repeat this step for the next 3-5 days.
- It is ready to use when you see bubbles forming.
*do not use chlorine water or softened water as it will kill the fermentation process.
*always use very clean utensils to prevent contamination.
