Sweet Tea Recipe - Concentrated and Canned
Homemade sweet tea concentrate offers a refreshing and customizable beverage option with potential health benefits. By controlling sugar content, you can tailor sweetness to your preference, reducing overall calorie intake compared to store-bought versions.
- 24 cups water
- 24 tea bags
- 5 cups of organic cane sugar
- 6 quart jars (hold 4 cups)
Instructions
- Fill a large pot with 24 cups of water and bring to a simmer
- Add the 24 tea bags and allow to simmer for 20 minutes more
- While it is simmering add 1 1/4 cups of sugar to 6 quart jars
- Once the 20 minutes is up remove the tea bags and add the tea to the jars and stir well.
- Wipe each jar with a small amount of vinegar on a cloth and add the lid and ring and tighten to finger tight.
- Place your jars into the water bath canner and cover with water. Make sure you have 2 inches of water covering the tops of the jars.
- Bring the water to a rolling boil and start your timer for 10 minutes.
- When 10 minutes is up, turn off the heat and allow them to sit in the canner for 5 minutes.
- Now remove your jars carefully by using a canning jar lifter and set them on a towel. You should hear them “pop” and seal.
- or you can also process your jars for 10 minutes in your pressure canner.
- Allow the jars to sit on the counter undisturbed overnight.
- After 24 hours check the seals and store until your ready to use it.
To make the sweet tea, add 1 quart jar to 3 quart jars of water, total will equal 16 cups of sweet tea.
You can add freshly squeezed lemon juice or slices to your tea if you wish.
